"He would withdraw to a deserted place to pray" - Luke 5:16

We as people tend to get distracted by countless tasks that need done and we can get disheartened by things that are beyond our control. The world seems to have this magnetic charge that gets us focused on ourselves and can hold us tight in its clutches. The harder we push the harder we tire spiritually. It is vital to us that we spend time each day in prayer and in God's word. We can't hear if we don't listen. We can't see if we're not looking.

I often find myself practicing guitar and get caught up on "guitar stuff". We all have gifts that we're good at doing but I wonder if our gifts are best used when we're away from them. When Christ walked the earth He could heal any affliction but He often chose solitude away from the crowd. I think one of the most amazing things about Christ's life and message was that it was very paradoxical. His message was "foolishness to the wise". When His disciples were near death being tossed by waves, He was sleeping. When angry mobs of men were spitting at Him and beating Him, He was forgiving them and turning the other cheek. So my challenge to myself and to all of you is to not get caught up in this deceiving world and all it seems to offer. "Everything is a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Jesus as our Lord."

We tend to define ourselves by what our gifts are and what we're good at. It's when we let go of ourselves and allow ourselves to seek God in solitude....that's where we find peace of mind and understanding. There's always more to be said but always much more to hear. There's always more tasks to do but always much more to be left undone. May God bless you all each day. Let's look to Him in all things.
